Do you know that there are cherry trees around Masuda that are more than 600 years old? Surprisingly, there are two of these giant Roki of cherry trees in Masuda.
1. Misumi Oohira-zakura (Oohira cherry tree)
It is a large cherry tree that is about 660 years old and has a trunk circumference of 6 meters. It is said that the trade name of the owner of this cherry tree is “Ohira” and the name of the location of the tree is also “Ohira”. It is a unique hybrid of Higan-zakura and Yama-zakura called “Ohira-zakura” and is a very valuable species. The white mountain-like flowers contrast with the blue sky and are very majestic.
I am moved by the power of life of the old tree, which has been blooming every year for about 700 years. I also admire the efforts of the people in the houses who have maintained it.
2. Mito Kanaya-jyou yama-zakura (wild cherry tree of Kanaya castle ruins )
A famous cherry blossom spot in Masuda Town. On the way from Masuda to Mito Onsen. The parking lot is so small. From there, it is a 15 minute walk to the top of the mountain.
A 600 year old mountain cherry tree. Only accessible by car (20 minutes from Masuda)
It is a hidden spot that is little known even in Masuda.
