Seiji Nagata, a native of Tsuwano, next door to Masuda, is an researcher of ukiyo-e art, art historian, and art critic. His collection of more than 2400 works related to Hokusai, which he collected over the course of his life, has been donated to the Shimane Prefectural Museum of Art. There are many valuable works that are only one or a few in the world. There are also prints of the famous Red Mount Fuji and the thirty six Views of Fugaku, Hokusai Manga, valuable original drawings, prints that are still brightly colored, and prints commissioned by the Tsuwano Domain. Hokusai’s collection, which is so valuable that it is unrivaled in the world, is on display only in the Prefectural Museum of Art in Matsue city and the Masuda city. You can see the Hokusai collection only in these two cities, and it is safe to say that Shimane is a sacred place for Hokusai. There is a permanent exhibition of the Hokusai collection at the Prefectural Museum of Art in Matsue, and the Hokusai exhibition is occasionally held at the Prefectural Museum of Art in Grand Toit in Masuda (most recently held from December 2023 to February 2024). There is no such luxury. If there is a Hokusai exhibition in Masuda, not only fans of Hokusai but also people who want to experience Hokusai directly.

A collection of photographs of the works exhibited at the Hokusai Exhibition held from December 2023 to February 2024 (selected from among more than 200 works) is posted here. It is a valuable site to be able to see such a large number.
