Onozawa Cinema is the only movie theater in Masuda City. In the past, there were several movie theaters in Masuda, but they were gone in 2008. In January 2022, the light of the movie was renewed and it was revived. A small movie theater with a capacity of 200 people.
The wife from Masuda and her husband who was working in Tokyo came back to the Masuda city and revived it. Fortunately, the chairs and the sound facilities of the movie theater remained, but it took a lot of money, including a digital movie projector. So, with the support of crowdfunding and the support of the citizens of Masuda, they were finally able to open the movie theater. While it is profitable to open one theater per 100,000 people, it is not profitable to open one theater in Masuda, which has 44000 people. They are working hard to cover the cost of living with other jobs. It seems that they are somehow able to maintain it with the desire to show the movie to everyone in Masuda, the enthusiasm to keep the light on the movie, and the cooperation of the citizens such as movie fans.
It was also featured on a NHK program called “ii-Ijyu (wonderful Immigrating)”.
A nice young couple who are really working hard.
